REDUCING TRAFFIC CRASHES IS EVERYONES RESPONSIBILITY

These figures are from the Ipswich, Toowomba and Warwick regions taken from Police statistics.

 

"Since January 1st 2006 there has been 17 motorcycle crashes that have resulted in fatalities."

 

How do they occur?

Of all fatal motorcycle crashes, 29% were 'Head On' collisions and a further 29% in­volved 'Hitting Objects'

 

33% of all motorcycles crashes occur when the rider falls or drops the bike.

 

26% of all crash incidents are 'Angle' crashes at secondary or highway intersections; and angle crashes account for 24% of all fatal motorcycle crashes.

 

Motorcycles are recorded as Unit 1 in 8% of all fatal and injury crashes in the Region

 

Who is involved?

Nearly 89% of people killed in motorcycle crashes are male

 

Of all people killed in crashes involving mo­torcycles, 65% were under 25

 

In all motorcycle crashes, 7% of those injured were pillion passengers

 

Where do they occur?

55% of fatal crashes involving motorcycles occur on secondary roads, 45% on highways. Of all injury crashes involving motorcycles, 36% occur on suburban streets. 47% of all injury crashes occur on secondary roads and 17% on the highways
